It's been a busy but enjoyable first week of teaching at NCCU. Next month, in-between my classes, I will be participating in a few events both locally in the piedmont area and virtually.

Last week, I signed my offer letter confirming that I will be an adjunct instructor of composition at North Carolina Central University beginning this semester. It has been an interesting and involved process finding the right teaching job. I was worried that I wouldn't get any offers but ended up with a few. I chose NCCU because they offered me...
Today I opened my computer to begin working on my novel-in-progress entitled Token. I opened my e-mail first and found that someone named Kirsten had messaged me on LinkedIn because she'd seen my name in Poets & Writers!
Many of you saw my post about being published in The Georgia Review. I collaborated with a wonderful editor at the review named CJ and she had the incredible idea to submit my story for the 2021 PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers. I never thought I would have my name on PEN America's website...

The deadline is always January 2nd and I've always wanted to win, not only because of the $1000 prize, but also because I've wanted to claim a space in this storied community...
I worked on a movie called Radium Girls in 2016 and it was finally released on Netflix about a week ago. This marks my first credit in a film on Netflix. Previously I was credited in A New York Love Story which made its debut on Hulu. But Netflix is a special place where I hope to one day be credited again!...
I'm doing a reading with some friends from the NCSU MFA program. The other readers are John Hanley, Misha Lazzara, Isabel O'Hara Walsh, and Jesse Adam Wang. The reading will take place on August 15th from 6-8 p.m. You can respond to the event here. E-mail soandsobooks@gmail.com to receive the Zoom invitation.
A story I wrote about pickup basketball, a certain politically charged word, and racism will be published in the Fall 2020 issue of The Georgia Review. I think they'll have copies at Barnes and Noble where I'm located in Durham, North Carolina. Look for yours at one of their locations or order from The Georgia Review's website.
